Tacoma

Tacoma is a very famous city in southern Seattle, nestled on the Puget Sound Area banks. It takes around 40 minutes from Seattle to reach Tacoma by car. A day trip to Tacoma can be a very good option when you don’t want to venture too far.

Bellevue

Ballard Locks

The Museum of Flight

After checking out classic attractions like the Space Needle, get your dose of science and come to explore the Museum of Flight.  This is located on a 15-acre campus and includes about 160 air and spacecrafts. The place has one of the largest air and space collections in the United States. You will be overwhelmed to see a full-scale NASA Space shuttle Trainer, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Boeing lunar rover, and an Air Force One from the Eisenhower era. Board a ferry with Washington State Ferries

Ferries are an important part of what makes Washington great with Washington State Ferries (WSF) managing the largest fleet of ferries in the United States, which is around 23 in total. A small trip across Puget Sound on one of the water vessels is a perfect Pacific Northwest experience that you must have. 

You must take out time to enjoy the magnificent views from the ferry as you cruise to the charming islands of Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, or San Juan. Sunsets here are most rewarding with amazing views where you’ll see the city start to sparkle as day turns to night and the skyscrapers light up.

Sky View Observatory

The Columbia Center is the tallest tower in the Washington State with a height of 295 meters. Although, once in 1985, this tower was the tallest building on the entire West Coast and since then it has dropped to fourth on the list. 

Although not as patronizing as the Space Needle, the Columbia Center’s experience is every bit as stimulating as you may imagine. After all, you get the opportunity to marvel over the beautiful murals and city life of Seattle underneath from the observatory on the 73rd floor, while gapping at the wonderful vastness of the Olympic Mountains, Puget Sound, and the beauty of Mount Rainier that spreads across through the horizons.

Enjoy the sunset at Kerry Park (Franklin Place)

For sweeping views of the famous Mount Rainier, Elliot Bay, and Seattle skyline, Kerry Park is one of the best places to go in Seattle.  

There isn’t much to do in this little park except for clicking some great Instagram-worthy pics. But if you’re looking for time to kill with a fantastic view and a play area, Kerry Park makes a great spot for a picnic too. Not to forget, do make a quick stop at Molly Moon’s homemade ice cream store nearby! Although there is no such thing as the best time to visit Kerry Park, pictures say visiting during the sunset is pure bliss.

T Mobile Park

Previously known as Safeco Field and rechristened to ‘T Mobile Park’ in 2019, this stadium is home to the Seattle Mariners and a pilgrimage for Mariners’ fans. This is a landmark in the city with its state-of-the-art brick façade, natural grass field, and a retractable roof. With a capacity to seat about 47000 fans, the T-Mobile Park offers delicious snacks which are beyond typical grub. 

You can fetch some delicious crab sandwiches along with some tacos or garlic fries and wash it down with margaritas. The visit to this stadium brings with itself an experience that is decked with magic, excitement, and a whole lot of adrenaline rush pumping through the veins.

Seattle Japanese Garden

Maintaining an important place in the directory of Seattle tourist attractions, Seattle Japanese Garden is an enchanting 3.5-acre garden laid out under the supervision of architect Jūki Iida. The park consists of winding paths that allow you to appreciate nature and the beautiful landscape in the garden.

Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI)

Gas Works Park

Are you looking for a place to relax on a perfect sunny afternoon in Seattle with your family? Then, you must go to Gas Works Park. The favorite kite-flying spot among the locals and one of the entertaining Seattle activities to engage with on a sunny day, this park on the north shore of Lake Union has the most amazing view of downtown Seattle. 

The old pump house is still intact on this site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company plant, giving a nice character to this park and offering some of the best photo opportunities in the city. Green Lake Park

Green Lake is a 29 acres park that is home to a beautiful freshwater lake in the North Central Seattle neighborhood. Like all the beautiful lakes in Washington state, Green Lake originated from the Vashon glacier about 50,000 years ago. Loved by the locals and the tourists, this park has a neatly laid path for skaters, joggers, and cyclists.  

Green Lake Park is the perfect place to turn away from the humdrum of Seattle downtown and public life. Here, you can rent a canoe, a pedal boat, and play a game of baseball or soccer or just swing an arm at golf. The elegant bathhouse by the lake is from 1927 and is now occupied by the Seattle Public Theater, for modern and contemporary plays in a friendly setting.

Volunteer Park Conservatory

If you visit the Volunteer park, the Volunteer Park Conservatory is one of the must-see places in the park. This stunning conservatory has been modeled on London’s Crystal Palace and completed in 1912, is a lovely indoor escape. The Volunteer Park Conservatory house a huge variety of plants like palms, bromeliads, ferns, cactuses, succulents, and a variety of seasonal plants from around the world. 

Don’t forget to look out for the historic jade tree, the beautiful collection of Orchids, and the sago palm in the Palm House, which have been put together more than 75 years ago. You must also take out time to explore the rare carnivorous plants collection in the Fern House and the striking collection of orchids in the Palm House.

University of Washington

The University of Washington campus, just a few minutes from downtown Seattle, has a jaw-dropping approach to its architecture and design. The University of Washington is home to the world-class Henry Art Gallery, which owns a huge collection of more than 25,000 pieces of art by famous artists such as Buckminster Fuller, Mies van der Rohe, and Alexander Calder.  

Don’t miss the concerts at the highly regarded Katharyn Alvord Gerlich Theater, by the UW ensemble. UW is also home to Hec Edmundson Pavilion and the 70,000-seater Husky Stadium, the university’s basketball, and college football teams also called the Huskies. You can take the self-guided tour of the University of Washington that will give you a preview of campus as well as a peek into the Husky Experience.

Gates Foundation Discovery Center

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center near the Space Needle has exhibits that document the impact Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has made around the world. Interesting interactive displays explain the way this Foundation aims to tackle issues like poverty, malnutrition, and homeless lives across the globe.

Visit the symbolic Fremont Troll

This Seattle staple and now an iconic sculpture weighing six tons of concrete and little less than six meters tall was created by a team of four local artists. Just a few minutes from Lake Union, it stands below the north end of the George Washington Memorial Bridge in the Fremont neighborhood. Climb atop this humongous troll to make a great photo op of your Seattle city trip. 

But that’s not all you can do here. You can explore the rest of the Fremont district by taking a casual stroll around along the water and shopping around exploring shops in the streets. We are sure you will instantly fall in love with the quirky Fremont neighborhood.

The Gum Wall

Among the quirky things Seattle has ownership of, the Post Alley Gum Wall tops the list. Right down the stairs from Rachel the piggybank and around the Pike Place Market. Although the wall has been cleared several times, the Gum Wall has been recognized as one of the top Seattle attractions.

Wing Luke Museum

The Wing Luke Museum is a much-loved destination in the Chinatown-International District. Get your own slice of history by learning more about the museum that has documented experiences of the Asian American refugee and immigrant in the northwestern United States. 

The museum located in the East Kong Yick Building was once called the Freeman Hotel and was the boarding house for everyone who came from pan Asian countries like Philippines, China, and Japan for the first time. Interestingly enough, this is the only museum in America that has taken a pan-Asian perspective.

Board a Water Taxi at Elliot Bay

If you’re visiting downtown Seattle, you should definitely take the ferry ride across Elliott Bay on the West Seattle Water Taxi. All you need to do is head to Pier 50 on the waterfront and hop on to one of the ferries. You will find several eateries to quench your thirst and hunger after all the adventure throughout the day.

Volunteer Park

Seattle Pinball Museum

Living Computer Museum

And finally, an experience that is really in tune with the Seattle technology! Yep, that is correct – the Living Computer Experience. Geeky or not, if computers pick your interest, then the Living Computer Museum is one of the top Seattle attractions you cannot miss. The Living Computers: Museum + Labs, described on Vulcan’s website as the ‘world’s largest collection of fully restored supercomputers, mainframes, minicomputers and more,’ opened in Sodo in 2012 and was expanded in 2016. Its offerings included not only selections from Allen’s vast personal collection, but hands-on exhibits on virtual reality, self-driving cars, robotics, and computer-generated art and music.”

Go Kayaking at Lake Union

Do you remember the floating homes from the movie ‘Sleepless in Seattle’? Lake Union is where you will find them. The bustling neighborhood around Lake Union lies in the northeast area of downtown Seattle and is filled with a variety of boats and other seaplanes.

Burke Museum

The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture or simply called the Burke Museum, established in 1899, is a natural history museum in Seattle, Washington. 

A leading location for learning about the natural and cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest, Burke Museum is also the oldest public museum in Washington State. It has a treasured collection of more than 16 million artifacts that range from dinosaur fossils, totem poles to unique gemstones. The museum’s collected works on geology, anthropology, and biology are used to conduct important research in the region and beyond.

Go hiking at the Rattlesnake Ridge

If you want to escape the hustle of the city and go on a frenzied adventure, pack your bags for a seven-mile round-trip hike to the Rattlesnake Ledge. About a 40-minute drive from downtown, the hike has a 1,175 feet elevation gain and offers breathtaking views of the Rattlesnake lake below. For a great hiking trail, you can take the very popular Rattlesnake Lake trail located on the southeast of the lake and has a clean gravel path.  

Remember to take your camera along, for these memories and escapades will add up in creating a treasured experience for you in the city.
