Little Tokyo

As the name indicates, Little Tokyo, located in the heart of downtown LA, is where you’d go to get a taste of space culture. The Movie Famous “Bradbury Building” 

Blade Runner fans, here’s an interesting nugget of trivia for you. Do you recall the zigzag staircases from the movie’s iconic climax? Well, those staircases are a part of the Bradbury building in downtown LA.  However, that is not this building’s sole claim to fame. Bradbury building is also recognized as the oldest commercial building of this residential district.

Though the wood, brick, and iron framework of this building are rather nondescript, there is something inexplicably endearing about the rustic appeal of this place.  Sure, you won’t be able to use its old elevators, but you are always free to scale some of its staircases and marvel at the stunning architecture of the Bradbury building.

Angels Flight 

Operating since 1901, the Angels Flight Railway is hands down among the major downtown LA attractions. Although the ride aboard this tramcar-like carriage lasts for merely a couple of minutes, the experience it packs in that time window is downright priceless. Staples Center  

The Staples Center is one of the great tourist landmarks of Downtown LA. If you have time in your hands, then you must book a ticket for either a sports event or a musical. El Pescador beach is a paradise for birdwatchers. Various kinds of birds can be spotted here, including double-crested cormorants, gulls, pelicans, and sandpipers.

Zuma Beach County Park 

Zuma Beach County Park lies to the west of Point Dume and has a long shoreline of 3 miles. This popular beach attracts many travelers and tourists, and it is particularly crowded during the summer months.

Abalone Cove Shoreline Park 

One of the best Los Angeles beaches, the Abalone Cove Shoreline Park can be considered a gem located along the Palos Verde coastline. The main attractions of the shoreline include an excellently maintained trail system, outstanding scenic view, and tide pools which are inexhaustible.

Will Rogers State Beach 

Located strategically between Pacific Coast Highway and Santa Monica Bay, Will Rogers State Beach is a great place to spend time with your special someone. You can either enjoy a romantic sunset or spend time sunbathing here.  

Will Rogers State Beach is also a place for destination weddings. Lifeguards patrol the area continuously during the day when visitors come to swim, dive, or surf.

Leo Carrillo State Park 

Among the many beaches in Los Angeles, Leo Carrillo State Park is a spot with ecological diversity. You can see rocky crags simply jutting into the ocean.

Redondo Beach 

What makes Redondo Beach city famous and different from the other beach cities is its unique pier, which is horseshoe-shaped.

Playa Del Rey 

Playa Del Rey Beach in Los Angeles is among the least crowded beaches in LA. It extends to quite a few miles.

The Almighty Opp 

This is one of the most eccentric and strange activities in which you can participate at night. Almighty Opp is a puppet show, which is extremely mysterious. The show is hosted on the last Saturday of every month in the corner of Koreatown. You can see guests coming and assembling at the corner of Elmwood and Western, which is close to arcade bar Blipsy. The puppet show starts at 09.00 pm and runs for quite some time.

The puppetry and bizarre music make the whole event eccentric. The most interesting thing to watch out for is that the shows are weird, strange, and funny and sometimes also look for participation from the audience. However, every month, a group of dedicated regulars can be spotted at the event.

The transatlantic Ocean Liner, Queen Mary is a floating museum. There are many spooky things about the floating ship. Griffith Park

Mt. Hollywood, Mt. Bell, Griffith Observatory – these are all important Griffith Park landmarks and make for great sightseeing in LA. But do you know which of them has the best view of LA? Griffith Park. Griffith Park is one of the most visited and most loved treasures in Los Angeles – and for good reason.

Griffith Park (or just The Park) is the largest municipal park in Los Angeles, California. Located in the Santa Monica Mountains, it occupies 4,310 acres of trails and was dedicated to the public on February 14, 1934. It is located northeast of Downtown Los Angeles. Thanks to its elevation change of over 2500 feet, Griffith Park holds some unique microclimates and hiking trails within it.

Located in the center of Griffith Park stands one of the area’s best hiking trails – the Belvedere Castle trail. Hiking to a castle may seem like an unlikely adventure for LA, but that is what makes this hike so fun. Most visitors to Griffith Park never travel past the parking lot of the Griffith Observatory.

The observatory is well worth a visit if you are intrigued by science and outer space. It is free to enter, you can bring food and drinks inside, and they host star gazing parties on select Friday nights (usually in September). But if you have time to explore beyond the observatory into the 6,200 acres that comprise Griffith Park, you won’t regret it. Plus, the park is accessible from only a few train rides.

Griffith Observatory

Venice Canals

What makes the Venice Canals even more unique is that they are man-made. The canals were dug in 1905 by DMA to drain the Pacific Ocean and create a small, 100-acre island that was then used as farmland before it became the neighborhood you see today. The Venice Canals are now the largest man-made canals you can find anywhere, second only to the original City of Venice in Italy.

That is perhaps one of the main reasons why they can draw the magnanimous crowd that comes in. What’s wonderful about the canals is that they are separated from the main activity of Venice Beach, which is next door to the north. Greystone Mansion and Park is the best-kept secret of Los Angeles and one of the top things to do in LA. With its pitch-perfect period architecture and time capsule artifacts, the mansion stands as a symbol of the rise of the city from its lowly cattle town beginnings almost 150 years ago.

The Greystone Mansion and Park is a mansion built in the Tudor revival style. Built between 1910 and 1914 by oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny, this was his private residence and featured an 85-foot tower on the highest point of the hill.

This mansion also had a four-car garage with a chauffeur’s apartment above it, stables for horses and servants’ quarters, and a gatekeeper’s cabin at the main entrance near Beverly Boulevard.

Watts Tower

If you are wondering what to do in Los Angeles, this is exactly it. After all, it is the tallest structure in Los Angeles, rising high above the city. And yet despite its prominence and commanding presence, few know its history or purpose. You see, there is plenty of interesting information about the Watts Towers that many have difficulty finding on their own.

Contrary to popular belief, this is not where a local hacker by the name of Kevin Mitnick learned his craft. The tower, or more accurately its base, is the remains of a power plant that once stood in the neighborhood of Watts in Los Angeles, California. The relic was designed by architects Arturo Muller and H.L Gapp and constructed in 1926 as one of four power plants built to serve the city of Los Angeles at that time.

Japanese American National Museum

Featuring shows like the Tales of the Little Tokyo, this museum is the first of its kind in the United States dedicated to tracing the history of Americans with ancestral roots in Japan. This museum built-in 1985, is the joint venture between the business communities of Little Tokyo and the war veterans of the World War II to recognize the contributions of the Japanese Americans in the socio-economic growth of the state of California. Union Center For The Arts

Shabu Shabu House

Shabu Shabu is a Japanese cooking technique and the precise meaning of this Japanese word is “swish swish”. It is the owner Yoshinobu Maruyama, who opened this hot-pot restaurant in the historic district and introduced the dish shabu shabu to America. The cooking technique involves immersing fine slices of meat in a pot of boiling water and then mixing the cooked meat with veggies, rice and ramen. This restaurant has only 24 seats, and the seating arrangement is such that each person gets to cook his own meal. A visit to Los Angeles would be boring without trying out Shabu Shabu. The 16×40 foot mural depicts the history of Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. Created by 500 artists, this colorful mural is a tribute to the camaraderie within the Japanese American community. Koyasan Buddhist Temple

Built in 1912, this temple is an offshoot of the Koyasan Shingon Buddhism practised in Japan. Reverend Shutai Aoyama from Japan migrated to the United States in 1898.
