Bondi Beach

Circular Quay 

One of the most famous attractions in the city is Circular Quay and a must-visit tourist destination. Circular Quay is located in the CBD (Central Business District). Sydney Cricket Ground, known as the SCG, is one of Australia’s most famous sports landmarks. Taronga Zoo Sydney

Art Gallery of New South Wales 

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is one of the premier galleries in Australia. It was first opened in 1874 and opened in 1895 by Sir William Manning, the then-governor of New South Wales. Ever since it has continually progressed into what it is today. 

Today, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is one of the most visited attractions because it caters to such a wide audience. The art displayed here is more than just paintings. It includes drawings, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, photographs, prints, historical documents, and even moving images.

Hyde Park Barracks 

Hyde Park Barracks is one of the most famous heritage buildings. Originally known as the Rum Hospital, the site was built in 1816 in the style of a European castle with battlements, turrets, and crenellation.  

This historic site and museum were built by Governor Lachlan Macquarie between 1816 and 1819 and remain substantially intact. The building served as the principal barracks for the NSW Corps and later as a military hospital and guardianship office until 1904. The barracks now houses a museum that interprets the history of New South Wales. The site was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

St. Mary’s Cathedral 

St. Mary’s Cathedral is a church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. It was designed by Edward Gell and built between 1836 and 1868. It is located in the heart of the CBD, on the corner of College and George Streets, and near the Town Hall within the City Centre Heritage conservation area. 

St. Mary’s Cathedral, the oldest church in the city, is worth visiting for its beautiful interior. The cathedral has high ceilings with old stained-glass windows and intricate architectural details. It appears black from a distance but is actually dark brown. In the back of the building, there is a graveyard with an impressive tomb where famous convicts are buried. 

For its size, the St. Mary’s Cathedral is considered one of the finest artworks ever produced by European architects and artists in Australia. The church is regarded as wonderfully warm and elegant. This church has been around for years, and when you take a ferry tour, you will be amazed by the beauty that surrounds you. There is a lot to see in this cathedral — from the old-fashioned stained-glass windows to the statues tucked in corners throughout.

Australian National Maritime Museum 

Visiting this historic museum has become something of a rite of passage for tourists here. The first museum to be constructed on Darling Island, it was built to house the Maritime Services Board of New South Wales. Today, the Australian National Maritime Museum occupies the site and is one of Sydney’s most popular museums. 

The museum is on a harbor and a spit of land with water on two sides. The architecture of the museum echoes the tall sails of tall ships, as well as an old whaling station. The roof structure of the museum is very tall and triangular-shaped.

Old Melbourne Gaol

A great museum in the city center, Old Melbourne Gaol, actually functioned as a prison from 1842-1929. Many infamous Australian criminals have been executed in this gaol. As per official records, 133 people were executed here while this was a prison.  

Many homeless and mentally sick people were interred in prison back in the day, where they lived in inhumane and miserably harsh conditions. The gaol is a chilling window into the country’s dark past and has a very melancholic effect on its visitors. It has now been turned into a museum that displays various exciting items like death masks of various criminals who were executed here. Ghost tours are also conducted by the museum as many opine that the place is haunted.

Crown Casino Complex

Just adjacent to the Yarra River stands the majestic Crown Casino Complex – a luxury resort and casino complex. It is one of the largest internationally, and the largest in the southern hemisphere. Shrine of Remembrance

Royal Exhibition Building

The Block Arcade

Opened in 1892, The Block Arcade is a retail zone, cozily housed in a heritage shopping arcade. Needless to say that the architecture of the arcade is simply stunning with stained glass windows, skylights, mosaic floors, etc., and the area is historically rich too.

Port Campbell National Park

Among other popular Melbourne things to do, you must visit Port Campbell National Park. Here you will spot some fantastic natural wonders in the form of 12 Apostles rock formation. Seven stacked rock structures make the 12 Apostles, and six of them can be spotted from the main viewing platform.

Federation Square

Melbourne Zoo

Adjudged as Australia’s oldest and one of the largest zoos, the Melbourne Zoo was opened in 1862. It is home to almost 300 animal species.

National Gallery of Victoria

This Victorian-style garden was built in 1848 and is spread over 65 acres of land. In Melbourne, this is one of the most beautiful public gardens closely resembling English gardens.  

The area where the park stands today was originally a swamp. But with care and cultivation, the site was developed into a lovely park that we see today. What is Vegemite made of ? 

Vegemite hails from Australia; however, it is now available in the UK and some other selected countries. Cyril Percy Callister, a chemist from Melbourne, developed this black paste in 1919 as a substitute for marmite due to its disrupted import during World War I. But there was one more reason that leads to the creation of this amazing condiment. Australian beer breweries used good amounts of yeast, and the discarded leftover was used to develop this item to avoid wastage.  

Australian Vegemite is made by blending yeast with onion, salt, and celery extracts. All these ingredients impart a ‘vegetable’ flavor and characteristic to this black spread with a thick consistency. Added flavors like spices and vegetables add the extra zing. Different kinds of additives and food coloring are added. It can be abundantly used on toasts, sandwiches, crackers, and similar food items and is also used for pastry fillings.  

What is Marmite made of ? 

Popularly known as British marmite, keeping its UK origin is distinct. German scientist Justus von Liebig invented marmite in the late 1800s. He researched and discovered that leftover brewers’ yeast could be consumed in concentrated form. As per statistics, the British love the item so much that they even carry it while traveling to other countries. Marmite XO, which is an older version of the authentic item, is also available.  

It is a dark brown, rich paste that can be applied on simple bread, hot toasted bread, wafer biscuits, etc. It can also be used in any hot drink and makes excellent sandwich filling. People who love marmite can consume it with anything. Due to the dense, salty flavor, it is generally used in little quantity. When you are looking for a good source of vitamin B complex, there is nothing better than spreading this on your daily bread.  

What does Vegemite taste like ? 

Australian vegemite has a very distinct taste. It is salty with a hint of bitterness in it. There is a strong and prominent yeasty flavor along with an essence of umami (it brings a slightly meaty flavor to food). Due to the strong flavors, using a small quantity is enough. While some people find its smell and aftertaste unappealing, others swear by it.  

What does Marmite taste like ? 

Like Vegemite, marmite is also salty, which is perfectly balanced with little sweetness. The appearance and texture of this spread are silky and smooth and consistency thick and kind of sticky. Due to its sweet and salty taste, this paste is used in different ways – as spreads and also in drinks and desserts.

The Battle: Vegemite vs Marmite 

The primary difference between marmite and vegemite lies in their origin — while the former is dedicatedly British, the latter is its Australian cousin. Although both are made from yeast extracts, there is a major variance in some of the key ingredients. While the yeast extract in vegemite is from wheat and barley, it is from wheat, barley, rye, and oats in marmite. The former has malt extract and abounds in vitamin B1 and B2. Marmite, on the other hand, has vegetable juice concentrate and is rich in has vitamin B12 and vitamin B3. However, both have salt, riboflavin, thiamin, niacin, and folic acid.  

It is very difficult to declare a clear winner in the battle of marmite v vegemite. Both the spreads have individual distinct characteristics and attributes, tastes, flavors, and usage styles. In fact, there are people who have tried both the varieties and then selected one of them as per their taste, likings, and preferences.
